XK related, Y-linked pseudogene 7 (XKRYP7) is a non-coding pseudogene located on the non-recombining region of the Y chromosome, expressed specifically in the testis. It shows high sequence similarity to the XK gene, which encodes a putative membrane transport protein involved in the Kell blood group system. XKRYP7 does not encode for a functional protein and is considered a pseudogene, meaning it is not believed to have direct biological activity as a protein-coding gene. However, recent research on pseudogenes in general suggests that some may play regulatory roles at the RNA level, such as through the generation of noncoding RNAs that can influence the expression of related genes. For XKRYP7 specifically, no direct functional or disease associations are documented, nor are there drug interactions or established biomarker or safety concerns[1][7][4].
