Target intelligence / Profile preview

Zinc finger protein 204, pseudogene (ZNF204P)

Target
ZNF204P
Molecular classification
Pseudogene (not a functional protein), Zinc finger protein family (based on sequence similarity; not actual function)
01

Overview

ZNF204P is a transcribed pseudogene possibly derived from ZNF79, encoding a predicted protein that would be severely truncated and lack key domains such as the KRAB domain and the C2H2 type zinc finger domain required for DNA binding and transcriptional regulation. Thus, ZNF204P does not produce a functional zinc finger protein and is not considered a molecular target for drug development or therapy. It is weakly linked to some cancer phenotypes through genetic association studies, but its biological function is unclear and it is not directly implicated as a protein-coding gene in disease mechanism.
