Overview
Zinc finger protein 542, pseudogene (ZNF542P) is a non-protein–coding pseudogene located in the human genome, closely related to the zinc finger protein family. Although it resembles functional zinc finger genes, ZNF542P does not encode a functional protein. It is predicted, based on sequence similarity, to be involved in regulation of DNA-templated transcription, possibly through non-coding RNA mechanisms. ZNF542P has recently been identified as a signature gene whose statin-induced expression change in cell line models correlates with low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) response to simvastatin, suggesting its utility as a pharmacogenomic biomarker. The physiological and clinical relevance of ZNF542P is under investigation, with no evidence for direct causative roles in disease nor any recognized drug interactions or toxicity concerns[1][2][4][6].
