Overview

Zinc finger protein 969, pseudogene (ZNF969P), is a non-protein-coding pseudogene member of the zinc finger protein gene family in humans. Zinc finger proteins are characterized by conserved zinc finger motifs involved in nucleic acid binding and various regulatory functions[2][4][5]. However, as a pseudogene, ZNF969P does not produce a functional protein product and thus does not have known transcriptional, signaling, or disease-related roles, nor is it considered a therapeutic target[7]. Pseudogenes commonly arise from gene duplication or retrotransposition events; while related in sequence to functional genes, they lack the ability to code for functional proteins and often have no known biological or clinical relevance[7]. Zinc finger protein family members, in general, function as transcription factors involved in DNA binding, regulation of gene expression, and other activities, but these properties are not ascribed to ZNF969P because of its non-coding, pseudogene status[2][4][5]. No evidence exists in primary genetic or pharmacological databases to suggest ZNF969P functions as an active receptor, enzyme, transcription factor, therapeutic target, or disease biomarker[7].
