ZPLD2P (zona pellucida like domain containing 2, pseudogene) is a nonfunctional genomic sequence in humans related to the zona pellucida protein family, characterized by the presence of a "zona pellucida like domain." However, as a pseudogene, it does not encode a functional protein, is not transcribed into a functional RNA or protein, and has no described physiological or pathological role. The ZPLD2 family, in their functional (non-pseudogene) forms, are part of the zona pellucida (ZP) domain superfamily, which plays key roles in the structure of the extracellular matrix around oocytes in mammals (e.g., ZP1–ZP4 proteins), but ZPLD2P itself does not have such a function as it is a pseudogene. Pseudogenes like ZPLD2P are not typically considered drug targets or biomarkers because they usually lack expression or functional product and have no established involvement in disease. There is no evidence that ZPLD2P acts as a receptor, enzyme, transporter, transcription factor, or plays any direct role in disease or therapy.
