The National Vaccine & Serum Institute (NVSI), also known as the CNBG Biotech Research Institute, is the primary research and development arm of China National Biotec Group (CNBG), a subsidiary of Sinopharm. Founded in 1919, it is one of China's most historic and significant biological research institutions, focusing on the development of vaccines, therapeutic antibodies, and diagnostic reagents. The institute played a pivotal role in the global response to COVID-19 by developing one of the first inactivated vaccines and a subsequent recombinant protein vaccine. NVSI maintains a diverse pipeline targeting infectious diseases such as HPV, influenza, and RSV, utilizing advanced platforms in recombinant technology and cell culture. As a state-owned entity, it serves as a cornerstone for China's public health infrastructure and national immunization strategies.
