AAI Pharmaceuticals

AAI Pharmaceuticals, originally founded as Applied Analytical Industries in 1979, was a comprehensive provider of drug development services and specialty pharmaceutical products. Headquartered in Wilmington, North Carolina, the company evolved from an analytical testing laboratory into a global Contract Research Organization (CRO) and Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO). Its business model uniquely combined service-based revenue with a portfolio of branded pharmaceutical products, including well-known treatments for pain management. Throughout the early 2000s, the company underwent significant restructuring, eventually spinning off its service division as AAIPharma Services. This division later merged with Cambridge Major Laboratories to form Alcami in 2016, marking the end of the AAI brand.
