Company intelligence / Profile preview
Abbey Healthcare Group was a leading American provider of home healthcare services, specializing in respiratory therapy, home infusion, and home medical equipment. The company grew rapidly during the early 1990s through a series of strategic acquisitions, establishing a significant presence in the managed care market. In 1995, Abbey Healthcare Group merged with Homedco Group, Inc. in a transaction valued at approximately $1.4 billion to create Apria Healthcare Group. This merger resulted in the formation of the largest home healthcare provider in the United States at the time. The company's service model was designed to provide clinical care in the home as a cost-effective alternative to hospital stays for patients with chronic conditions. Following the merger, the entity continued to evolve, eventually becoming part of Owens & Minor in 2022.
