Founded in 2016 as part of the ab medica group, the company serves as the exclusive distributor for Intuitive Surgical's da Vinci and Ion platforms in the Iberian Peninsula. Beyond equipment sales, ABEX provides comprehensive clinical training for surgeons, technical maintenance, and strategic support to help hospitals establish high-performance robotic surgery programs. In early 2025, Intuitive Surgical announced its intent to acquire the distribution operations of ABEX and its affiliates to establish a direct commercial presence in the region.
