Abu Dhabi Biobank

Abu Dhabi Biobank is a strategic healthcare initiative launched in 2024 by the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH) in collaboration with M42, a tech-enabled health powerhouse. Located in Masdar City, it operates the region's largest hybrid cord blood bank and a large-scale pan-human biobank with a capacity for five million samples. The facility provides families with both public donation and private storage options for umbilical cord blood, which contains life-saving hematopoietic stem cells used to treat over 80 diseases, including leukemia and thalassemia. By integrating biological samples with extensive genomic and clinical data, the biobank serves as a critical infrastructure for precision medicine, drug discovery, and translational research. It has established major partnerships with global pharmaceutical leaders like AstraZeneca and regional healthcare providers to advance personalized medicine and improve health outcomes in the Middle East.
