ACF Chemiefarma

ACF Chemiefarma, originally established as the Amsterdamse Kininefabriek (Amsterdam Quinine Factory) in 1881, was a prominent Dutch pharmaceutical company specializing in the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs). The company was globally recognized as a leading producer of quinine and quinidine, essential treatments for malaria and cardiac arrhythmias. Based in Maarssen, Netherlands, it expanded its portfolio over the 20th century to include iodine-based contrast agents and various other fine chemicals for the healthcare industry. In 1991, the chemical manufacturing operations of the ACF Group were acquired by the multinational life sciences company DSM. Although the facility in Maarssen eventually closed in the mid-2000s, the company remains a significant part of the history of European pharmaceutical manufacturing.
