acib

acib is an Austrian non-profit industrial biotechnology research organization that operates at the interface of academia and industry. The center develops biocatalytic, microbial, bioprocess, biopharmaceutical, diagnostic, and bio-based manufacturing technologies for pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical, food, feed, agriculture, materials, and environmental applications. Rather than a single-asset therapeutics developer, acib functions as a collaborative R&D and innovation platform supporting translational research, contract research, and technology transfer with large pharma, biotech companies, startups, and academic institutions. Its work spans enzyme engineering, synthetic biology, cell engineering, downstream processing, diagnostics, and renewable-resource biorefineries, with a stated focus on enabling a bio-based circular economy and better health for all. The organization is publicly owned by Austrian universities and research institutions and is funded in part through the COMET competence center program.
