Acordia

Acorda Therapeutics was a biopharmaceutical company primarily focused on developing and commercializing therapies for neurological disorders. The company is best known for Ampyra (dalfampridine), an oral medication used to improve walking in adults with multiple sclerosis, and Inbrija (levodopa inhalation powder) for the treatment of OFF episodes in Parkinson's disease. Acorda's proprietary ARCUS technology platform enabled the delivery of high-dose medications via inhalation, providing a rapid onset of action. Despite its commercial success with Ampyra, the company faced significant financial challenges due to patent expirations and debt. In April 2024, Acorda filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and subsequently sold its assets to Merz Therapeutics for approximately $185 million. The company's operations have since been integrated into Merz's portfolio.
