AcousTx Corporation was a Seattle-based medical device company specializing in the development of high-intensity therapeutic ultrasound systems for surgical and emergency applications. The company is most notable for its role in the DARPA-funded Deep Bleeder Acoustic Coagulation (DBAC) program, where it worked to develop a portable "acoustic tourniquet" designed to non-invasively stop life-threatening internal bleeding using focused sound waves. Its technology platform also encompassed image-guided thermal ablation for the treatment of solid tumors, such as prostate and liver cancers, and benign conditions like uterine fibroids. AcousTx collaborated with major partners including Siemens and Philips to integrate its therapeutic devices with advanced imaging modalities like MRI and CT. Although the company was a pioneer in acoustic hemostasis during the mid-2000s, it has since ceased independent operations, with its core technologies influencing subsequent developments in the field of therapeutic ultrasound.
