Adiana

Adiana was a medical device company that developed a minimally invasive, non-surgical permanent contraception system for women. The Adiana System used radiofrequency energy to create a small lesion in the fallopian tubes, into which a soft, porous silicone matrix was placed to stimulate tissue ingrowth and permanent occlusion. The company received FDA approval for its flagship product in 2009, positioning it as a competitor to the Essure device. Adiana was acquired by Hologic in 2009 to expand their women's health portfolio. However, Hologic discontinued the product in 2012 following a patent infringement lawsuit and strategic shifts.
