Advanced Medical Optics

Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) was a prominent global medical technology company focused on the design, development, and manufacture of ophthalmic devices. Spun off from Allergan in 2002, the company established itself as a leader in three primary segments: cataract surgery, laser vision correction (refractive surgery), and contact lens care. Its portfolio included industry-standard products such as the Tecnis line of intraocular lenses, VISX excimer lasers, and IntraLase femtosecond lasers. AMO's strategic acquisitions of VISX and IntraLase solidified its dominant position in the LASIK market before it was acquired by Abbott Laboratories in 2009. Today, its legacy and technologies continue to operate under the Johnson & Johnson Vision umbrella.
