Advanced Pain Therapeutics (APT) was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development of novel formulations for acute pain management. The company's lead asset, APT-1020, was a proprietary, long-acting injectable version of bupivacaine intended for post-operative pain relief. By providing sustained release of the anesthetic, the therapy aimed to improve patient recovery and decrease reliance on systemic opioids. In 2009, the company was acquired by Hospira for $20 million in upfront cash to bolster Hospira's portfolio of hospital-based injectable drugs. Following the acquisition, APT's technology was integrated into Hospira's research and development pipeline.
