Advanced Vision Therapies

Advanced Vision Therapies was a biotechnology company focused on the development of gene-based therapies for ocular diseases, primarily age-related macular degeneration (AMD). As a subsidiary of GenVec, the company utilized a proprietary adenoviral vector platform to deliver therapeutic genes to the retina. Its lead candidate, AdPEDF, was a first-in-class gene therapy designed to express pigment epithelium-derived factor (PEDF), a potent anti-angiogenic and neurotrophic protein, to treat the 'wet' form of AMD. Although the program successfully completed Phase 1 clinical trials, the company's assets were eventually consolidated into GenVec, which was later acquired by Intrexon (now Precigen) in 2017.
