AdvancePCS was a leading independent pharmacy benefit management (PBM) company in the United States before its acquisition by Caremark Rx in 2004. The company provided a comprehensive suite of health improvement services, including prescription drug plan administration, clinical services, and mail-order pharmacy operations. It served a diverse client base consisting of blue-chip employers, insurance companies, and government agencies. At the time of its acquisition, it was one of the largest PBMs in the country, managing billions of dollars in drug spend and providing services to over 75 million members. The merger with Caremark Rx eventually led to the formation of CVS Caremark following a subsequent merger with CVS Corporation.
