Advancis Pharmaceuticals, later renamed MiddleBrook Pharmaceuticals, was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of anti-infective products. The company utilized its proprietary Pulsys technology, a delivery system designed to provide a pulsatile release of drugs to improve the efficacy and dosing convenience of existing antibiotics. Their primary commercial achievement was the FDA approval of Moxatag, the first once-daily amoxicillin treatment for streptococcal pharyngitis. Despite its technological innovations in drug delivery, the company faced significant financial challenges, leading to a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing and the sale of its assets in 2010.
