Overview
Aeras Global Vaccine Foundation (Aeras) was a non-profit product development partnership (PDP) dedicated to developing new, effective vaccines against tuberculosis (TB). Founded in 2003 and headquartered in Rockville, Maryland, Aeras collaborated with global biotech, pharmaceutical, and academic partners to advance a diverse pipeline of TB vaccine candidates. The organization was primarily funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the UK Department for International Development (DFID), and other global health donors. In 2015, Aeras sold its biopharmaceutical manufacturing facility to IDT Biologika, and in October 2018, it transferred its remaining clinical research programs, assets, and staff to the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), ending its independent operations.
