Aerospheres

Aerosphere (originally developed by Pearl Therapeutics) is a proprietary drug delivery platform now owned by AstraZeneca that utilizes phospholipid-based porous particles to deliver respiratory medications via pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs). The technology is designed to create stable, uniform suspensions of drug crystals, ensuring consistent dosing and deep lung penetration regardless of a patient's inspiratory flow. This platform has been successfully commercialized in several blockbuster respiratory treatments, including Breztri Aerosphere and Bevespi Aerosphere. By enabling the combination of multiple therapeutic agents in a single inhaler, Aerosphere technology has become a cornerstone of AstraZeneca's inhaled respiratory portfolio.
