Company intelligence / Profile preview
Afferent Pharmaceuticals developed first-in-class small molecule antagonists of the P2X3 receptor for neurogenic conditions. Its lead candidate, AF‑219 (gefapixant), showed robust reductions in cough frequency in Phase 2b trials for chronic cough and was also studied in IPF with cough. The company’s second compound, AF‑130, completed Phase 1 testing and was planned for further studies in non-respiratory indications. In June 2016, Merck acquired Afferent to advance these programs into later-stage clinical development.[10][9]
