Affirmed Pharma was a specialty pharmaceutical company focused on developing abuse-deterrent formulations (ADF) of opioid medications to combat the prescription drug abuse epidemic. The company's core technology, the Affirm platform, utilized a combination of physical and chemical barriers to prevent common methods of tampering, such as crushing for inhalation or dissolving for injection. Their pipeline included abuse-deterrent versions of widely prescribed pain medications, including hydrocodone/acetaminophen (AP-101) and oxycodone/acetaminophen (AP-102). Affirmed Pharma intended to leverage the FDA's 505(b)(2) regulatory pathway to streamline the approval of these safer alternatives.
