Agenzia Industrie Difesa

Agenzia Industrie Difesa (AID) is an Italian government agency under the Ministry of Defence that manages several industrial units, most notably the Stabilimento Chimico Farmaceutico Militare (SCFM) in Florence. As Italy's only state-owned pharmaceutical manufacturer, AID plays a critical role in public health by producing orphan drugs for rare diseases that are not commercially viable for private industry. The agency is also the sole authorized producer of medical cannabis in Italy and maintains national stockpiles of antidotes and emergency medicines for civil and military defense. AID operates with a mandate to combine social utility with industrial efficiency, providing essential healthcare products and services to the Italian National Health Service. Its activities extend beyond pharmaceuticals to include naval, land, and aerospace defense maintenance and services.
