Company intelligence / Profile preview
Agradis was an agricultural biotechnology company focused on developing sustainable solutions for crop improvement and biofuel production through advanced genomics and microbial technologies. Formed as a joint venture between Synthetic Genomics Inc. (SGI) and Plenus S.A. de C.V., the company leveraged a proprietary discovery platform to identify beneficial microbes and genetic traits that enhance plant productivity and resilience. In January 2013, Monsanto acquired the core assets of Agradis, including its name and its extensive collection of microbes, to bolster its agricultural biologicals portfolio. Following the acquisition, the company's microbial research was integrated into Monsanto's BioAg alliance, while its castor and sweet sorghum businesses were spun off into a separate entity.
