Agricultural Bank of China

The Agricultural Bank of China (ABC) is one of China's "Big Four" state-controlled commercial banks. Founded in 1951 and headquartered in Beijing, it provides a wide range of financial services including corporate finance, personal banking, treasury operations, asset management, investment banking, fund management, financial leasing and life insurance. It plays a leading role in rural revitalization and the real economy in China. As of 2024 it had over $5 trillion in assets and nearly 23,000 domestic branches as well as international offices[1][2][6].

The bank has no clinical programs or results; its focus remains on financial products for individuals and businesses with an emphasis on agriculture-related lending[8].

It was listed on both the Shanghai Stock Exchange (SSE) and Hong Kong Stock Exchange (HKEX) in July 2010 after restructuring into a joint stock limited liability company[1][3]. Its IPO was the largest ever at that time.

ABC has been recognized as a Global Systemically Important Bank by the Financial Stability Board for over a decade[1].

In recent years it has focused on digitalization and green finance alongside traditional banking.

The bank employs approximately 459,000 people worldwide[6].
