Agtrol International, also known as Agtrol Chemicals, was a prominent manufacturer of agricultural chemicals and plant growth regulators based in Houston, Texas. The company was a global leader in copper-based fungicides and bactericides, most notably through its Champ and Champion product lines, which utilized advanced copper hydroxide formulations to protect crops from fungal and bacterial pathogens. Agtrol also operated in the agricultural biotechnology space, producing plant hormones such as gibberellins (TypRus) and agricultural antibiotics like streptomycin (Streptrol) for the treatment of diseases such as fire blight in fruit trees. The company was acquired by Phibro Animal Health in 1994 and subsequently by Nufarm in 2002, which integrated Agtrol's extensive portfolio and manufacturing capabilities in the U.S., France, and Mexico into its global operations.
