AHIC Successor

AHIC Successor, Inc., later renamed the National eHealth Collaborative (NeHC), was a public-private partnership established in 2008 to transition the work of the American Health Information Community (AHIC) into a private-sector entity. The organization was tasked with advancing the development of a secure, interoperable nationwide health information system and accelerating the adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) in the United States. Working closely with the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC), NeHC played a critical role in harmonizing health IT standards and facilitating the development of the Nationwide Health Information Network (NHIN). In 2013, the organization was acquired by the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), which integrated NeHC's standards and advocacy initiatives into its global health IT operations.
