Arbeitsgemeinschaft Internistische Onkologie (AIO) is a leading German academic research organization and scientific working group within the German Cancer Society (DKG). Founded in 1976, the organization coordinates a vast network of over 1,500 oncology professionals and 500 study sites to conduct high-quality multicenter clinical trials across all major cancer types. AIO is particularly renowned for its research in gastrointestinal oncology, including the landmark VOLFI study (AIO KRK0109) which evaluated panitumumab in combination with FOLFOXIRI for metastatic colorectal cancer. Through its operational arm, AIO-Studien-gGmbH, the group manages the legal and administrative aspects of clinical research and collaborates with global pharmaceutical partners to establish new standards of care in oncology.
