AK Steel

AK Steel was a leading American producer of flat-rolled carbon, stainless, and electrical steel products, primarily serving the automotive, infrastructure, and energy industries. Headquartered in West Chester, Ohio, the company operated several steelmaking and finishing plants across the United States and was a major supplier to the North American automotive market. In March 2020, AK Steel was acquired by Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., integrating its operations into a vertically integrated steel and iron ore producer. While primarily an industrial materials company, AK Steel also produced specialty steels used in medical instruments and was a pioneer in antimicrobial-coated steels for healthcare environments.
