Overview

Akela Pharma’s lead program was Fentanyl TAIFUN®, a fast acting fentanyl formulation delivered via the proprietary TAIFUN® dry powder inhaler, developed for breakthrough cancer pain. The product reached Phase III clinical trials as of late 2008. Another pipeline asset was a growth hormone releasing hormone analog that completed successful Phase IIa studies. However, by 2011, the company shifted focus to its profitable contract manufacturing business, PharmaForm, after termination of its Japanese partnership on Fentanyl Taifun and bankruptcy proceedings for its Finnish subsidiary.[4][5]
