Akermin was an industrial biotechnology company that developed biocatalytic solutions for carbon capture and industrial gas processing. The company's core technology was a proprietary Biocatalyst Delivery System (BDS), which utilized the enzyme carbonic anhydrase immobilized within a stable polymer matrix to efficiently remove carbon dioxide from industrial exhaust streams. This approach was designed to be more energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable than conventional chemical solvent-based scrubbing methods. Headquartered in St. Louis, Missouri, Akermin successfully demonstrated its technology in several pilot programs before its assets were acquired by Oxy Low Carbon Ventures in 2019.
