Company intelligence / Profile preview
Akorn-Strides was a 50:50 joint venture established in 2004 between the American specialty pharmaceutical company Akorn, Inc. and the Indian firm Strides Arcolab (now Strides Pharma Science). The partnership was formed to develop, manufacture, and commercialize a pipeline of generic sterile injectable drug products for the United States market, leveraging Strides' manufacturing base in India and Akorn's sales and distribution network. The joint venture successfully developed a portfolio of Abbreviated New Drug Applications (ANDAs) covering therapeutic areas such as anti-infectives, analgesics, and central nervous system disorders. In early 2011, the joint venture sold its entire portfolio of 22 ANDAs to Pfizer for approximately $63.2 million, effectively concluding its primary business operations. Following the divestiture, the joint venture was wound down as both parent companies shifted their strategic focus.
