Overview
Akouos’s lead program, AK-OTOF, is an AAV-based gene therapy targeting sensorineural hearing loss caused by mutations in the otoferlin gene. The program is currently in Phase 2 clinical trials. Preclinical data have shown promise for restoring physiologic hearing following a single administration to the inner ear. Additional programs are at preclinical or discovery stages targeting other forms of genetic hearing loss and related indications such as Usher syndrome and acoustic neuroma.
