Company intelligence / Profile preview
Aktiebolaget Leo, commonly known as AB Leo, was a prominent Swedish pharmaceutical company founded in 1914 and based in Helsingborg. The company was a pioneer in the Swedish drug industry, developing widely recognized consumer brands such as the analgesics Albyl and Treo. Beyond over-the-counter products, AB Leo was noted for its research in oncology and endocrinology, notably developing the prostate cancer drug Estracyt. In 1986, the company merged with Pharmacia to form Leo-Pharmacia, which was later integrated into Pharmacia & Upjohn and eventually Pfizer. Today, its former manufacturing facilities in Helsingborg operate under McNeil (Kenvue), continuing the site's long-standing legacy in healthcare production.
