Aktiv-Dry

Aktiv-Dry is a biotechnology company specializing in the stabilization and delivery of vaccines and biopharmaceuticals as dry powders. Founded as a spin-out from the University of Colorado Boulder, the company developed the proprietary CAN-BD (Carbon Dioxide Assisted Nebulization with a Bubble Dryer) technology, which allows for the micronization of thermally labile substances like live viruses and proteins at near-ambient temperatures. Its lead program, an inhalable dry powder measles vaccine delivered via the low-cost PuffHaler device, successfully completed Phase 1 clinical trials in collaboration with the Serum Institute of India. Despite significant funding from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, the company faced challenges in advancing its pipeline to later-stage trials and is currently considered inactive.
