Albireo Pharma is a commercial-stage biopharmaceutical company focused on the development and commercialization of novel bile acid modulators to treat orphan pediatric and adult liver diseases. The company's lead product, Bylvay (odevixibat), is a potent, non-systemic ileal bile acid transporter (IBAT) inhibitor approved for the treatment of pruritus in patients with progressive familial intrahepatic cholestasis (PFIC) and Alagille syndrome. Albireo was acquired by Ipsen in March 2023 for approximately $952 million upfront plus a contingent value right (CVR) related to the potential approval of Bylvay in biliary atresia. The acquisition significantly expanded Ipsen's rare disease portfolio and commercial presence in the hepatology market.
