Company intelligence / Profile preview
Alellyx was a pioneering Brazilian biotechnology company focused on applied genomics for tropical agriculture. Established in 2002 by leading scientists from the FAPESP-funded Xylella fastidiosa genome project, the company aimed to enhance the productivity and disease resistance of key crops such as sugarcane, citrus, and eucalyptus. Alellyx utilized advanced molecular biology and genomic sequencing to identify and manipulate genes responsible for desirable agricultural traits. In 2008, the company was acquired by Monsanto for a combined total of $290 million along with its partner company CanaVialis.
