Alexian Brothers

Alexian Brothers Health System was a prominent Catholic healthcare organization headquartered in Arlington Heights, Illinois, with a history dating back to 1866. The system operated a network of acute care hospitals, specialty behavioral health centers, and extensive senior living facilities throughout the Chicago suburbs. In January 2012, the organization was acquired by Ascension, the largest non-profit health system in the United States, to ensure long-term sustainability and expanded access to care. After participating in the AMITA Health joint venture between 2015 and 2022, the Alexian Brothers facilities were fully integrated into the Ascension Illinois brand. The legacy of the Alexian Brothers continues through the clinical excellence and community-focused mission of the hospitals they established.
