Company intelligence / Profile preview
Algos Pharmaceutical was a U.S. pain-management biotechnology/pharmaceutical company focused on developing proprietary analgesic and anesthetic products for moderate to severe pain. Its approach centered on combining established analgesics or local anesthetics with dextromethorphan, an N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor antagonist, to improve pain control and potentially reduce limitations of existing therapies. The company was publicly traded on Nasdaq under the symbol ALGO following its 1996 IPO. In 2000, Algos was acquired by Endo Pharmaceuticals Holdings through a stock-for-stock merger, after which Algos ceased operating as an independent public company. The company is best remembered for its pain pipeline, including MorphiDex, and for contributing development assets to Endo's pain franchise.
