Allelix Neuroscience

Allelix Neuroscience was a prominent Canadian biotechnology company focused on the discovery and development of therapeutics for central nervous system (CNS) disorders and metabolic bone diseases. The company established a robust pipeline targeting neurotransmitter receptors and transporters, with a particular emphasis on glutamate and glycine systems for treating schizophrenia and depression. Allelix is perhaps best known for the development of teduglutide (ALX-0600), a GLP-2 analogue that later became a standard treatment for short bowel syndrome. The company was acquired by NPS Pharmaceuticals in 1999 in a strategic merger that combined their respective expertise in calcium receptors and CNS research.
