Allen and Hanburys

Allen and Hanburys was a pioneering British pharmaceutical company founded in 1715, originally operating as a pharmacy in London. The company gained international recognition for its contributions to respiratory medicine, most notably the development of the bronchodilator Ventolin (salbutamol) and various inhaled corticosteroids. In 1958, the firm was acquired by Glaxo Laboratories, forming a key pillar of what would eventually become GSK. Throughout the 20th century, it operated as a specialist division within the Glaxo group, focusing on the UK market and respiratory health. While no longer an independent entity, its legacy continues through GSK's extensive respiratory portfolio and its historic manufacturing site in Ware, England.
