Alliance BMP

Alliance BMP (Alliance Bone Morphogenetic Protein) was a strategic joint venture established between Genetics Institute (now part of Pfizer) and Medtronic Sofamor Danek to develop and commercialize recombinant human bone morphogenetic proteins. The entity's primary achievement was the development of rhBMP-2, which became the active biologic component of the InFUSE Bone Graft system. This product revolutionized spinal surgery and orthopedic trauma care by providing a potent osteoinductive alternative to autologous bone harvesting. Following the acquisition of Genetics Institute by Wyeth (and subsequently Pfizer) and the full integration of the technology into Medtronic's biologics division, the joint venture's operations were absorbed by the parent companies.
