Alliance for Better Bone Health

The Alliance for Better Bone Health was a strategic pharmaceutical partnership between Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals and Sanofi (formerly Sanofi-Aventis). Established in 1997, the alliance was dedicated to the development and global promotion of therapies for bone-related disorders, most notably the bisphosphonate Actonel (risedronate sodium). Actonel is indicated for the treatment and prevention of postmenopausal osteoporosis, male osteoporosis, and Paget's disease of bone. The collaboration successfully established Actonel as a blockbuster product, competing directly with other major bisphosphonates in the global market. The alliance effectively concluded its original form in 2009 when Procter & Gamble sold its pharmaceutical assets to Warner Chilcott.
