Company intelligence / Profile preview
Alliant Techsystems (ATK) was a prominent American aerospace and defense company that also maintained a specialized research focus in the life sciences and pharmaceuticals. Leveraging its deep expertise in energetic materials and chemical synthesis, the company developed a portfolio of novel cyclic nitro compounds designed to treat cancer and other disorders involving abnormal cell proliferation. Although its primary business units focused on propulsion, munitions, and space systems, ATK's biotechnology efforts sought to repurpose defense-related chemical technologies for medical applications. The company merged with Orbital Sciences Corporation in 2015 to form Orbital ATK, which was subsequently acquired by Northrop Grumman in 2018.
