Company intelligence / Profile preview
Almanij (Algemene Maatschappij voor Nijverheidskrediet) was a prominent Belgian financial holding company that played a central role in the European banking and insurance sectors. Historically, it served as the primary shareholder of Kredietbank and later the KBC Bank and Insurance Holding Company. While not a dedicated life sciences or biotech firm, Almanij held significant diversified interests, including a controlling stake in Gevaert, which in turn owned a major portion of Agfa-Gevaert, a company with substantial operations in healthcare imaging and diagnostic systems. In 2005, Almanij merged with its subsidiary, KBC Bank and Insurance Holding Company, to simplify the group's structure and form the current KBC Group.
