Alpha-Stem

Alpha-Stem was a French biotechnology company specializing in the generation and characterization of human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) for drug discovery and disease modeling. Founded as a spin-off from the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA), the company developed advanced cellular models that mimic human pathologies, particularly neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. Alpha-Stem provided pharmaceutical and biotech partners with high-quality, standardized cell-based assays to improve the predictive value of preclinical studies. Their expertise included the directed differentiation of iPSCs into specific neuronal and glial lineages to facilitate toxicity screening and target validation. Although the company is no longer active as an independent entity, its foundational technology contributed significantly to the development of "disease-in-a-dish" platforms.
