Alpha Therapeutics

Alpha Therapeutic Corporation was a prominent biotechnology and pharmaceutical company specializing in the development and manufacture of blood plasma-derived products. Founded in 1978 as a subsidiary of the Green Cross Corporation of Japan, the company became a major global supplier of essential therapies, including Factor VIII and Factor IX for hemophilia, albumin for volume replacement, and Aralast for alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency. Alpha Therapeutic was notably involved in the historical blood contamination scandals of the 1980s, which led to significant legal and regulatory challenges. The company's assets were eventually divested in the early 2000s, with its plasma collection centers acquired by Grifols and its primary product lines, including Aralast, acquired by Baxter (now part of Takeda).
