Alsius

Alsius was a medical technology company that developed and marketed proprietary intravascular temperature management (IVTM) systems. The company's technology allowed for precise control of a patient's core body temperature through a heat-exchange catheter inserted into the venous system. These systems were primarily used in critical care settings to manage fever or induce therapeutic hypothermia in patients suffering from cardiac arrest, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. Alsius's product portfolio included the CoolGard and Thermogard consoles along with specialized catheters like the Quattro and Icy. The company went public in 2007 but was subsequently acquired by ZOLL Medical Corporation in 2009. Following the acquisition, Alsius's technology was integrated into ZOLL's temperature management division, where it continues to be a market leader.
